Freedom (2025)

Freedom is a living sculpture that captures the exhilaration I feel when wearing modest, flowing garments—unrestricted by fabric, unburdened by constraint. The piece embodies the kinetic energy of movement and the joy of autonomy, where clothing becomes an extension of freedom rather than a limitation.

This piece also reimagines the narrative of hijab, divorcing it from tropes of oppression and instead centering agency, vitality, and play. As a Muslim woman, I aim to disrupt monolithic portrayals of our lives, offering a counterpoint to Islamophobic discourse by anchoring the work in childhood’s boundless optimism—a time when possibilities feel infinite, and the body moves with unselfconscious abandon. Freedom is both a personal ode and a political act: a reclamation of space, motion, and self-determination.
